About Us
After the Lane County public safety measure failed in November 2006, a group of local people got together to work on ways to keep the dream of improved services to girls alive.Among the organizers of this project, known as “Girls at Risk,” were women who are active in Girl Scouts, Zonta, Looking Glass, Sexual Assault Support Services, Womenspace, United Way and the Lane County Department of Youth Services.
Project founders include such leaders as Grace Serbu, Lorraine Thomas, Liz Humphrey, Doris Towery, Rosaria Haugland, Alicia Hays, Lisa Smith, Craig Opperman, Robin Burk, Pat Frishkoff and many others.
Our GoalWe are single-minded in our pursuit of improved services to girls. While ideally funding would be achieved through a broader public safety package, our top priority is to make sure that girls in Lane County are served. We have the facilities; now we need to fund the positions – the people – to work in these facilities and provide services to girls at risk.Specifically, we need: • 7 shelter beds for girls (cost - $383,250) • 7 drug and alcohol treatment beds for girls (cost - $459,750) The price tag for bringing services to girls up to par: $843,000 |
