Check out our awesome event at girlsrulefair.com !
This is the year of the girl in Lane County.
This is the time for putting our feet down, our heads up and our shoulders to the wheel to see that girls at risk in our community get the services they need and deserve. The lack of social services from drug and alcohol treatment to shelter and mental health counseling means that girls living on the edge are denied help that is available to boys. One would think that sort of gender discrimination went out in the 60s but, in the name of budget cuts, its happening today.
As women, we find the situation appalling, and unacceptable. As mothers and daughters, it breaks our hearts. As citizens and voters, we are organizing to do something about it.
Investing in girls now just makes common sense: Girls are our future mothers. We need to take care of them so they can take care of the next generation of children.
